Well done to everyone who got involved on this and thank you RBS for upping your standards.

Dear Misae,

Three weeks ago, we asked for your help to make Royal Bank of Scotland end its investment in
companies that produce cluster bombs – and you did us proud. Over 1,000 of you
donated to an ad campaign to shame RBS. Over 11,000 of you emailed the bank's
Chief Executive. And hundreds more wrote, rang and tweeted your revulsion.

So I’m delighted to share the
news that last week RBS changed their policy and agreed to cease investments in
companies involved in the production of cluster munitions - thanks to you.
At first RBS flat out denied our allegations. But in the end, it seems the
threat of our ad campaign was just the pressure they needed to change their
minds.
They have now committed to
drawing up a new policy and have frozen their dealings with companies involved
in the manufacture of cluster bombs while they do so. They're also going to work
with the UK Government and other banks to draw up a code of conduct. Find
out what RBS said and how we’re going to hold them to account

Next up? A bulletproof arms
trade treaty
RBS may
have committed to do as we asked, but we'll work with them to ensure they
deliver on their promises. Meanwhile, we're setting our sights on our next,
even bigger campaign goal: securing a robust global arms trade treaty in 2012.

One person dies every minute
from armed violence and millions more have their lives and livelihoods ripped
apart. But right now, we have a once-in-a-generation chance to reduce this
suffering by securing a new international treaty to regulate the arms trade. A
treaty that would help end the flow of weapons to human rights abusers. Take
action now
We’ve been working towards this
since 2003, but with negotiations in their final stages we’ll be ramping up our
activity over the coming months. As our cluster bombs campaign has shown, when
we work together we can achieve amazing things. So I hope I can count on your
continuing support.
First up, we need Foreign
Secretary William Hague to stand up at the UN General Assembly this month and
make it clear the UK is committed to a robust treaty, and won’t allow other
states to water it down. Read
more and send an email to William Hague now
As our cluster bombs campaign
has shown, when we work together we can achieve amazing things. So I hope I can
count on your continuing support. Thank you once again,

Olly SpragueArms
Campaigner

Re: New Twitter Scam

UPDATE: The itiwitter scam appears to have multiple versions of the DM including

- view this photo i think it's you.. Is there also an aspect which is it always seems like the next person on is having a party which can make you feel like you're missing out. However if you look inside yourself and find gratitude for what one has as that's when your own party begins?

Re: Lessons in Success from Greece

haha, indeed! Well, I interpret the story as saying that life is a perpetual cycle, find happiness where you can, and in the end... it's the simple joys that give us the most satisfaction. Unfortunately, for those of us who are not Cypriot fishermen, catching those fish is sometimes hard work. Especially in this age of competitive markets / overfished seas. So aim high, but not too high... Or I could just be over-analysing the whole thing. :-0

Re: Lessons in Success from Greece

I gave it some deep thought and well, really I think you should aim a bit higher in life. 69 seemed to have it's attractions but then I thought you might think life too one track

Re: Lessons in Success from Greece

Don't you mean 42? ;-)

Re: Lessons in Success from Greece

49?

Re: Lessons in Success from Greece

Nice story. I run a T7500 dual Xeon desktop and a dual quad core i7 laptop. I'm not saying that to boast, I'm saying that because if you make your living from computers you want something you can drive fast and those military grade clarksfield i7 processors really make a difference.

That said I don't know much about high performance configurations.
